Dynamic QR Code Generator

Updated July 18, 2026 · by the CodesQR team

Make a QR code once, then change where it points and watch the scans roll in. No reprinting, no new sticker, no lost traffic.

Dynamic vs static: the difference that matters

A static QR code has the destination baked into the pattern itself. Whatever URL you encode is fixed forever, so if that link ever breaks or moves, the printed code is dead. Our free link QR generator and text QR generator make static codes instantly, and they are perfect when the destination will never change.

A dynamic QR code works differently. The printed pattern encodes a short redirect address on codesqr.com, and that address forwards each scan to your real destination. Because the pattern only ever points at the redirect, you can swap the destination behind it as many times as you like. The sticker on your packaging stays identical while the page it opens changes on demand.

Edit the destination anytime

Printed a flyer that now links to last season's campaign? Open the code in your dashboard, paste a new URL, and save. The next scan lands on the updated page within seconds. This is the whole point of an editable QR code: the physical artifact and the digital destination are decoupled, so a typo or a moved page is a two-minute fix instead of a reprint order.

A dynamic code can point at a plain web link or at a file you upload. Attach a PDF, an image, a spreadsheet, or a ZIP archive and CodesQR hosts it behind the code. See QR codes for PDFs and QR codes for any file if you want to skip building a landing page and just hand people a document.

Every scan is tracked

Static codes are invisible once they leave the printer. Dynamic codes report back. For each code you get the total scan count, a 30-day chart of scans over time, and a breakdown of the devices people used. That tells you which poster location works, whether a mailer landed, and when interest spikes. If analytics is your main reason for going dynamic, the trackable QR code page goes deeper on what the numbers show.

Colors, formats, and printing

Set a custom foreground and background color so the code fits your brand, then download it as a crisp PNG for slides and social, or as an SVG that scales to any billboard without blurring. Keep a healthy quiet zone around the code and enough contrast between the two colors so phone cameras lock on quickly. The person scanning needs nothing more than the camera app already on their phone.

What the free plan includes

You can start on the free plan and keep your codes there for good. It covers dynamic codes with unlimited scans, destination editing, scan analytics, and PNG or SVG downloads. Paid plans add more codes and extended analytics history when you scale up, but nothing about the free tier expires or throttles your traffic. There is no credit card required to publish your first code.

New to the format? The QR code basics guide explains how the pattern encodes data, and all QR code tools lists every generator we offer, from Wi-Fi to contact cards.
